Traffic and transport planning

The quickest way from A to B

Transport routes form a cohesive network to find the quickest possible way from A to B.

This means that there is a direct correlation between expanding transport routes for access to building zones and building development itself. Apart from stations and stops belonging to the regional railway transport network, the road network is of particular significance in Troisdorf. The latter is also used by local bus services and provides access to the whole urban area. Also of importance is the network of cycle paths. Coherent networks are equally crucial for rural roads, pavements and walks.

Not all roads in Troisdorf are planned by the town

Various traffic and transport agencies are responsible for planning and operating transport routes. Landesbetrieb Straßenbau NRW constructs and manages the national arterial roads. These are the motorways and national highways. The state of North-Rhine Westphalia builds and maintains state roads of at least regional importance - Landesbetrieb Straßenbau NRW is also responsible for these. Other regional roads are funded by the Rhein-Sieg Kreis as district roads. Only the remaining roads in the urban areas are municipal roads belonging to the city of Troisdorf. Road construction authorities at all levels work closely together and coordinate their planning.

Law on building new roads

The law for building new roads or making essential changes to roads is produced in a formal administrative procedure with public consultation. It concludes with official planning permission, similar to the approval of a private building scheme. You will find more information on planning permission and ongoing procedures relevant to Troisdorf on the website of the regional government in Cologne (Bezirksregierung Köln).

A building development plan can be used for state and district roads instead of an official planning procedure.

Traffic calming to improve the living environment

A comparison of traffic development plans from 1972 and 1989 demonstrates how traffic and transport planning has shifted from the car-friendly town of the 1970s to the traffic-calmed residential areas of the early 1990s.

The pilot project "Fahrradfreundliches Troisdorf" (Bicycle-friendly Troisdorf) laid the foundation for a seamless and efficient network of cycle paths.
